Buffalo Bill Dam Visitor CenterBuffalo Bill Dam, a farsighted watershed project, was completed in 1910. At the time, it was the highest elevation for a dam in the world. It was additionally one of the first concrete dams built in the United States: its construction marked a breakthrough in design and the development of concrete arch structures. Buffalo Bill Dam was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. For all of its engineering and architectural breakthroughs, the dam and its reservoir served a higher need. This was the irrigation of multiple conservation districts particularly in eastern Park County. There the water has made several agriculture based communities where grains, sugar beets and other products have replaced the rock and sagebrush. Buffalo Bill Dam is located on the Shoshone River about six miles west of Cody. The dam is 353 feet high, 200 feet wide at its crest and 108 feet wide at its base.View Details Book It
